Welder (British Columbia)

Opportunity:
Leading industrial service company has openings for full-time, long-term positions for industrial trades in North Western BC specifically; Kitimat, Terrace and Burns Lake. Specific trades required; Millwrights, Pipefitters, Welders, Carpenters, HE Operators, HE mechanics, Electricians. Journeymen and Apprentices with experience positions available.

Working Conditions:
• Work will be indoor and outdoor often in rough terrain and under typical Northern BC weather conditions. Work is regularly undertaken in environmentally sensitive locations.
• Working in and around noise and dust typical to industrial sites
• 10-12 hour day and night shifts
• Shift rotation changes per location (typically Monday-Friday or 14 on, 7 off)
• Living local or willing to relocate given preference, camp an option
• Benefits provided by appropriate union (discipline dependant)
• Pre-access, post-incident drug and alcohol testing requirement
• Valid driver’s license and drivers abstract an asset
• Must have possession of CSTS 09 (Construction safety training systems). Successful candidates without it will be set up with appropriate training required.

Responsibilities:
• Receives instructions, prints, and work orders for jobs
• Interprets drawings and sketches, plans details of working procedure, tools, and material requirements
• Selects materials in accordance with suitability for job
• Lays out work, makes sketches, and determines stock sizes as required
• Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded as required
• Sets-up assembles and tack weld parts, constructing special fixtures as needed
• Performs gas and electric welding in all positions (down-hand vertical, overhead, etc.
• Makes any type and size of weld, such as "V" lap, butt, etc., pre-heating parts when required
• Builds up worn or defective parts
• Cleans, grinds, and flame anneals parts and welded joints as required
• Uses burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut materials to size and shape
• Exercises all safety precautions and makes provisions for handling material and equipment to and from job site as required in connection with work
• Works in shop or field
• Performs work requiring a working knowledge of the welding properties of various types of metals, welding rods, welding heats, stress relief, allowances for fitup and machining and the effect of shrinkage, warpage, and expansion
• Keeps work area clean
• Notifies appropriate personnel of any procedural abnormalities
• Observes and follows all safety rules and regulations

Qualifications and Experience:
• Must possess an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Welder Certificate
• A B-pressure welding certificate would be considered an asset
• Must be proficient at SMAW (stick welding),GMAW (Mig welding), and Carbon air arc gouging
• Preference will be given to applicants with previous maintenance experience
• Must be able to work independently
• Problem solving and ability to trouble shoot will be considered a strong asset

Physical & Other Requirements:

• Valid driver’s license and drivers abstract an asset
